The Churchill Gun Carrier was a tank destroyer built on the chasis of the Churchill tank; formaly known as the A22D, Churchill 3 inch Gun Carrier. The vehicle had a fixed 88 mm (3.5 in) thick superstructure with it's main gun in a ball mount. The main armament was a 3 inch anti-aircraft gun, however obsolete for it's time; a possible 17 pounder alternative could have made this vehicle more effective on paper. An initial order for 100 of these vehicles was placed however this was later reduced to 24. Between 24 and 50 Churchill Gun Carriers were built between 1941 and 1942; during the Second World War, however none saw any action.
